The first six volleyball games have been canceled in response to the district’s policies for COVID-19. This was put into effect on Tuesday when the team was scheduled to play Prosper ISD.

“I was devastated, as were the other girls,” senior Grace McGlaughlin said. “We’ve been practicing off and on since March, and Prosper was supposed to be our very first game back. We were prepared and so excited to be back competing, so it broke my heart when we couldn’t play.”

Practices have been canceled for the remainder of this week. The team is expected to be back playing on Sept. 29 in their game against The Colony.

“Right now, I know a lot of us will be focusing on school work and doing at home workouts again to stay in shape,” senior Brynn Egger said. “It will be similar to what we did last school year when the school was closed.”

TRL asked the volleyball coaches about how the cancellation of these games and practices will affect the season and received no comment. The players, however, hope for a quick return to practices and games.

“My hope is just to play,” McGaughlin said. “I am a very competitive person and playing volleyball is my passion, just like the other girls. Things might look different in practice or games, but we will play again. My hope is that we all take this seriously so that we can have a season and a chance at another state championship.”
