Volleyball looks to bounce back against Aledo

The third-ranked in the state Leopard volleyball team (29-5) will play the Aledo Bearcats (15-13) in an away match next Tuesday at 6 p.m. Aledo is currently ranked 61st in the state, and 211th nationally. The Leopards will be looking to bounce back after suffering a 3-0 loss at home against number-one-ranked in the state Byron Nelson.

“Against Aledo, I think our focus needs to be on our defense and being able to block in and make plays,” sophomore Averi Carlson said.  “I think we’ll do really good if we can come together as a team and play as one.”

Aledo currently has a home record of 3-1, compared to Lovejoy’s undefeated away record of 3-0. The Leopards have more kills this season, while the Bearcats have more blocks.

“We have to work on being more efficient and taking care of the game plan and staying consistent throughout the whole match,” junior Grace McLaughlin said. “If we can execute, then we’ll play well and play consistent.”

On Tuesday, The Leopards lost 3-0 to the Byron Nelson Bobcats, who are ranked first in the state, according to MaxPreps. Junior Cecily Bramschreiber led the attack with 12 kills, with junior Ellie Jonke also picking up 11 kills. On defense, junior Lexie Collins recorded three blocks, and junior Callie Kemohah picked up 19 digs.

Ryan Wang
Ryan Wang, Section Editor
They say third time’s the charm, but as senior Ryan Wang struggles to write his third (and last) staff bio, he feels anything but charming. Being crowned the new Arts & Entertainment editor for TRL, he’s spent the past few months perfecting his craft by watching an unhealthy amount of movies.. Having lost touch with reality, he’s gone back to his roots and doing what he does best: making sandwiches, walking his cat, and shouting loudly at the Pittsburgh Penguins on TV. Needless to say, he can’t wait to go back to school to see his friends, zone out in class, and go on boba-trips eight times a week. Aside from running his extremely legit “Magic Zappy Machine” business, Ryan is also involved in speech & debate, investing club, dishwashing, NHS, and of course, The Red Ledger. He’s looking forward to another great year on staff, where he’ll be looking to connect with new writers, producing great content, and most importantly, raiding the local snack cabinet.
Katie Dolberry
Katie Dolberry, Section Editor
Heading into her second year on staff, senior Katie Dolberry is excited to take on the role of sports editor and photographer. She would like to pursue journalism as a sports broadcaster. Outside of the newsroom, Katie puts her height and long wingspan to use by playing post in basketball and first base in softball; she is also a part of PALS. More often than not, Katie can be found talking to her Sky Ranch friends or talking about camp in general. If you were to drive past her, you would likely hear her jamming to lots of country music. Katie is also a chapstick addict and has some in her pocket 24/7. Her favorite flavor is candy cane. More things Katie loves include chocolate, bucket hats, throwing the football, Bible journaling, picnics with friends and the sky. Katie cannot wait to see what her second year on staff has to offer.
