On May 7, the jazz band will be performing in the auditorium along with special guests–the Texas Instruments (TI) Jazz Band and the world-renowned Delfeayo Marsalis as a guest soloist on trombone. The concert will begin at 7 p.m..

“We want all of our members to continue to be musicians in some way when they leave our program,” high school band director Paul Heuer said, “and the TI Band is a perfect example of a great group made up of people who played all the way through college and beyond while still pursuing other interests for careers.”

The bands will perform individually as well as together.

“The high school band will play first by themselves and then feature Delfeayo,” Heuer said. “The TI Band will do the same ending in a combined performance at the very end with all 40-50 members of both groups and Delfeayo.”

The TI Band contacted the high school band with the idea last year asking to do a joint concert, and they contracted with Marsalis to be a guest soloist.

“We have three contest tunes that we have been working on, plus three new tunes that are specifically set to feature Delfeayo,” Heuer said. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our students and the TI Band.”
