Boys soccer seeks to capitalize on opportunities versus North Forney

The boys soccer (6-2-2) team will host the North Forney Falcons (1-6-2) tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The Leopards will enter the game coming off a 1-1 tie to Wylie East last Friday. Head coach Alex Duran said that he is looking for his team to capitalize on more offensive opportunities.

“We are a team with the ability to create opportunities for goal,” Duran said. “Throughout the season the team and coaches have talked about finishing their opportunities and scoring down the stretch when they have the opportunity.”

The Leopards currently sit in second place in District 15-5A, placing them one game behind Mesquite Poteet and one game ahead of third place Wylie East. North Forney is currently in last place in district and is looking for its first district win.

Last season, the Leopards took both the games against North Forney.

“North Forney last year was a team that we easily beat,” junior Christian Kwon said. “This year they have improved a lot so we have to stay focused and not take them for granted.”

Once the Leopards play the Falcons tonight, they will face first place Mesquite Poteet on Friday.

Joe Vastano is your average Joe. He is a senior who really likes sports, fishing, and running. Texas A&M is his favorite college, so he cheers for them in any sport, especially football and basketball. Joe has also grown up as a Dallas fan, so the Cowboys and Mavericks will always be his pro teams. When he is not watching sports, he is playing them. His favorite is basketball, and he can be found playing it at any rec center or gym in the area. Joe is hoping that his lengthy time as a staff writer, and his previous term as editor-in-chief of Leopard Life in middle school will pay off in his last go around. Senior Parker Nolan joined The Red Ledger in ninth grade and is now the paper’s Multimedia Editor. His hobbies include making music, photography, and borderline dangerous escapades (some consider him an adrenaline junkie). Parker is currently dual enrolled at Collin College for Emergency Medical Services education to become an EMT. His favorite movie is “The Italian Job,” and his favorite genres of music are alternative rock and rap. "Be the change you want to see in the world,” a quote from Mahatma Gandhi, is a phrase that Parker tries to live his life by. In his spare time, Parker enjoys working out, hanging with friends, and exploding fireworks. Parker can be described as sometimes chill, sometimes adrenaline filled, and a little too confident in his abilities.
