The tennis team’s season ended last Friday as they fell to district rival, Highland Park, in the regional finals match of the UIL 5A state playoffs.

Senior Brandon Su said he was proud of how his team fought throughout the match.

“We played well against Highland Park,” Su said. “Each and every player on the team never gave up and forced Highland Park to have to work for each point.”

The tennis team advanced four rounds deep into the playoffs this year before falling to Highland Park, defeating Greenville, Frisco Heritage, Frisco Independence, and Midlothian.

Junior Sydney Wong said the team played very well over the course of the season.

“We beat a lot of good teams during the season and won a lot of really close matches in the playoffs,” Wong said.

Su said he thought the team improved daily throughout practice and game matches.

“We’ve grown tremendously as a team and I am proud of how everyone practiced hard and worked for everything we achieved this fall,” Su said.

The team will now turn their focus and attention to the offseason, as they will get ready for the spring season.

“In the upcoming weeks, we will begin preparing for the individual season in the spring by practicing and figuring out which players will play in each event,” Wong said.
