Describe your piece in three words:

Abstract, expressive, portraiture.

What was your inspiration?

I’m of mixed-racial background, so that’s really what I’m exploring through my work.

Does you portrait resemble anyone in particular?

Me and my parents.

What were you trying to communicate with this portrait?

Largely the stereotype attributed to different facial features.

What was going through your head as you were making it?

Just focusing on values and representing each face correctly. Even though I’m abstracting it, it’s still important for it to be recognizable

Will you continue with art in the future?

Absolutely. I’m going to the Art Institute in Chicago, so I will be getting my bachelor in studio art.

If you could hang out with one dead artist, who would it be?

Jean-Michel Basquiat.
