The 10th annual Lovejoy Country run will be held on Saturday, May 7. The run is a 5K that begins at 8 a.m. in the courtyard behind the high school and runs up and down Rockridge and ends back at the courtyard.
“I’m really excited to run in this year’s country run because all my friends are running in it and it should be really fun,” freshman Grace Broussard said. “I ran in it last year and I really enjoyed it.”
The run will help benefit 15 athletic booster clubs including baseball, girls basketball, boys basketball, football, soccer, softball, volleyball, swimming, tennis, golf, wrestling, sports medicine, volleyball, cross country/track and engineering.
“I’m running in this race for the volleyball program,” sophomore Anabelle Archer said. “I participated in it last year and it was fun so I’m looking forward to it this year.”
Along with the 5K, there is a 1K fun run before it starting at 7:30 a.m. that is around the track.
The 5K race costs $15 for race chip timing and no t-shirt, but $20 for race chip timing and a t-shirt. Trophies will be given to the fastest finishing male and female, and medals will be given to the top three males and females in each age group.
“I decided to run in the country run because I love running and all my friends are doing it so it should be really fun with them,” freshman Will Heath said.
After the 5K, there will be a pancake breakfast in the cafeteria. Non-race participants can still buy tickets for the breakfast.
