The baseball team (11-14-1 overall, 1-8 in district) travels to face rival Prosper High School (19-11 overall, 6-3 in district) Friday at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, the team fell 12-1 to Wylie East (19-2 overall, 6-2 in district), ranked 7th in the state in class 5A according to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. The game was originally set to be played on Tuesday, but bad weather forced the delay.

Head coach Jason Wilson shared his goals for the team as it enters the final stretch of the season.

We need to improve the most simply by competing, focusing, and giving maximum effort,” Wilson said. “I am looking for drastic improvements in those areas the last few games of district.”

Last time the Leopards played Prosper, the Eagles beat Lovejoy 5-1 at home. Prosper has to quickly turn around after a 4-3 loss earlier this week against Wylie, ranked 9th in the state. This will be the last meeting between the rivals this season and the last chance for seniors to take on the Eagles. Senior Andrew Keefer is excited to play his final rivalry game.

“We’re going to go in looking for a win,” Keefer said. “In rivalry games, anything can happen and it’s about which team wants it more.”

The team has faced challenges in the tough district season, with five of its losses coming by two runs or less. But Keefer said the energy hasn’t left the team, especially when it comes to the rivalry.
“Since it’s our last game against Prosper and we want to ruin their season, I guess we’ll have to give them an ‘L’,” Keefer said.foll
