Lance Boxell and the girl varsity basketball team will take the court on Tuesday to face Rockwall (0-2) at home at 6:15 p.m. for their first game of the 2015-2016 season.

The varsity team has four returning players from last year’s 8-13 record season. Sophomore Kaylee Rakieta was second team all-district last season. Junior Allison Hubble was an honorable mention all-district selection.

“We have been preparing for this season by working out with Michael Johnson Performance and playing in a McKinney basketball league,” sophomore player Taylor Meixelsperger said. “As a team, we would like to place first in our district and to make the playoffs.”

Sophomores Taylor Meixelsperger and Kim Lyne will also be returning as varsity players this season.

“We are working really hard this season even though we are a young and small team by running our plays over and over,” Lyne said. “This year we are just going to do the best we can.”

Rockwall has lost their first two games of the season, falling to Highland Park, 36-26, and Little Elm, 53-41.

Joining Boxell is junior varsity coach Mike Motsney and freshman coach Kelly English.

The team’s next games will be held this Thursday through Saturday as they will play in a tournament held in Allen.
