Although the lacrosse team falls under the radar to most of the school and community, it is thriving and growing enormously yearly. One new addition this year is junior George Butler, who moved from Green Valley High School in Las Vegas, Nev.

Butler has been playing lacrosse for seven years.

“All of my cousins played lacrosse growing up and they got me into it when I was in fourth grade,” Butler said.

Many athletes aspire to play their sport at a collegiate level. Butler aspires to one day play in college as well.

“I would love to play lacrosse in college,” Butler said. “It would be cool to play for the University of Utah, BYU, Denison, or Middlebury. I would play for any college that wants me though.”

Back at home, Butler played for multiple lacrosse programs including the Coronado High School team, the Vegas Starz, and the Zip-It Lacrosse program.

“I play year round and try to practice at least an hour a day,” Butler said.

The lacrosse program has a solid team this year, given that the majority of their team from last year is returning and their seniors are all threats on the field. Captains Carson Buckner and Weston Haas, both seniors, plan on playing lacrosse at a collegiate level.

“George completes a starting trio of talented young men at the traditional attack position,” head coach Richard Schwartz said. “His skills and lacrosse IQ will give a solid advantage not only below the goal line extended but from anywhere in the attack zone.”

Butler played football his freshman year of high school, but wanted to follow his passion in lacrosse and dedicate his time to that.

“Football got me in great shape, but I wasn’t very good and I could spend the football season playing lacrosse instead,” Butler said.

Moving from Vegas has been a big transition for Butler, both physically and mentally.

“In Vegas I went to Green Valley High School, and Lovejoy definitely has a higher stand of learning and teaching, but I really like it so far,” Butler said.
