Clash for the crown

The annual Mr. Lovejoy pageant will take place on Sept. 24

“You have now been crowned Mr. Lovejoy.”

Oh, those words, like sweet honey: the signal of ultimate victory.

As the Mr. Lovejoy pageant approaches, the contestants caught up with The Red Ledger’s Madeline Campbell to preview the homecoming event taking place on Thursday between third and sixth period.

 

 

Durin Baron

The Red Ledger: What are you bringing to the competition this year?

Durin Baron: “Juggling.”

TRL: What do you plan on getting out of this year’s competition?

DB: I want more people to join Lojo Jesters.

TRL: What do the other contestants have to bring to the competition to beat you?

DB: Nothing will help [my opponents].

TRL: What are your plans for afterwards if you win?

DB: To become a freakin’ rock star.

 

Bailey Bennett

TRL: What are you bringing to the competition this year?

Bailey Bennett: A heart, a great attitude, and laughter.

TRL: What do you plan on getting out of this year’s competition?

BB: The crown.

TRL: What do the other contestants have to bring to the competition to beat you?

BB: They can’t beat me.

TRL: What are your plans for afterwards if you win?

BB: Can’t disclose that information.

 

Clayton Bilke

TRL: Why did you decide to do Mr. Lovejoy this year?

Clayton Bilke: Because I thought it would be a fun experience and it’s senior year so you want to go out and do stuff that you have never done before and have fun.

TRL: What are you bringing to the competition this year?

CB: I bring an extra surprise. You never know what I’m gonna do.

TRL: Who from years past do you admire?

CB: I like what Connor Cross and Greg Watson did last year. I thought that one was pretty funny.

TRL: What do the other contestants have to bring to the competition to beat you?

CB: They got to bring everything. You know, just everything whether it’s smarts [or] answering questions. They gotta do everything.

 

Ian Engbrook

TRL: Who from years past do you admire?

Ian Engbrook: Asells was pretty dope.

TRL: Who do you look forward to competing against?

IE: There is no competition.

TRL: Who do you hope judges you?

IE: It doesn’t matter, they are all going to like me.

TRL: What are your plans for afterwards is you win?

IE: I’ll decide once I win.

 

Kitrell Phillips

TRL: Why did you decide to do Mr. Lovejoy this year?

Kitrell Phillips: Well it’s my senior year and everybody likes to see me dance, so I just wanted to do it for the last time and go out there and have fun.

TRL: What do you think your best event will be?

KP: Probably the talent one.

TRL: Who do you look forward to competing against?

KP: My friend, Ian Engbrook.

TRL: What are you bringing to the competition this year?

KP: I bring passion and fun.

 

Jake Schmidt

TRL: What are you bringing to the competition this year?

Jake Schmidt: Style.

TRL: What do you plan on getting out of this year’s competition?

JS: Fun, I guess, and a free tux.

TRL: Who do you hope judges you?

JS: Mr. Cooper.

TRL: What are your plans for afterwards is you win?

JS: To wear the crown.

 

Will Viloria

TRL: What do you think your best event will be?

Will Viloria: Honestly, I feel like my best event will be the talent show. I have something very special planned. I think it is going to wow the judges and get me that Mr. Lovejoy title.

TRL: Who do you look forward to competing against?

WV: Well, I look forward to competing against Jake Schmidt because he and I are pretty tight.

TRL: What are you bringing to the competition this year?

WV: Pizazz, Madeline, pizazz.

TRL: What are your plans for afterwards if you win?

WV: I’m gonna go to Disney World.
