Darby Blaylock, Sports Reporter

A chill remains in the air but for the baseball team, it’s time to get ready for the upcoming season. The Red Ledger’s Darby Blaylock catches up with senior pitcher Brandon Provence for a look at what Leopard fans can expect.

The Red Ledger: How has offseason been?

Provence: “It was pretty rough, we conditioned a lot and worked out a lot. Mainly conditioned. We ran most of the time, it got us into shape.”

The Red Ledger: How has the transition been into the season?

Provence: “Pretty easy, we are all in shape and ready to go and we are excited. We just can’t wait to be on the field.”

The Red Ledger: When do games start?

Provence: “During spring break, so you all should come out and support us during spring break if you all are here.”

The Red Ledger: How do you think you will do this year?

Provence: “Over all I think we will do pretty good, basically it’s a new team with five returners. Everyone is pretty young. I think we will do pretty good.”

The Red Ledger: Who is the toughest competition for the team?

Provence: “Prosper, they are new in our district and we have heard they are pretty decent.”

The Red Ledger: Do you pitch every game?

Provence: “It all depends on the person pitching. Usually it’s me and John and we will pitch every other game, just so we can give our arms a rest. We can’t afford to have a pitcher hurt right now.”

The Red Ledger: Fastest and average pitching speed?

Provence: “Topped out at 92 at OU. Average pitching speed I would say 86-88.”

The Red Ledger: Do you hit? Why or why not?

Provence: “I do hit right now but that could all change closer to season.”

The Red Ledger: How are yall preparing for the season?

Provence: “Going hard at our three hour practice just doing things that could get us ready for the season.”

The Red Ledger: What’s your game plan?

Provence: “Go out there and win.”

The Red Ledger: Do you play club, are you a pitcher there?

Provence: “I play pitcher and outfielder. In club I usually just pitch. I will also be pitching next year.”
