Students who participated in the Stanford debate trip had the opportunity to tour Google Headquarters in California. After arriving home from the trip, the team was met by a TV crew in the airport.

Stepping off the plane from its trip to Stanford, the debate team was greeted by an unexpected camera crew shooting footage for a new television show.

“We got off the airplane to go into the baggage claim area and there was a camera crew waiting out there with our families,” Jarrett Sipes said. “I didn’t really know what was going on but it was cool, I just wasn’t expecting it.”

The camera crew explained what they were filming for a new reality TV show.

“In a minute this guy came over with a sign and he said ‘Hey, hey, I need everyone to read this real quick there’s too many of you to get releases signed but will everyone read this real quick’ and he told us what they were doing and it was for the Travel Channel,” debate teacher Tami Parker said. “He said ‘we are filming a show called Hello and Goodbye’ and we are filming hellos and goodbyes at airports and that it might be on in June.”

Students who were there thought the experience was interesting.

“We walked into the airport and there were film crews so me and my mom stopped walking in and they waved us in so we came in and they filmed us hugging,” junior Summer Knight said. “We were hugging and we thought they were done and we turned and they were still filming us. They filmed us the entire time we were there. It was weird because we would try and talk and the sound thing was in our faces. Then they made us sign papers and do release forms and told us about what was going on and when it was coming on.”

Whether it will air or not is unknown, but it was still a fun experience for those involved.

“I have no idea if it will or won’t but it was kind of fun,” Parker said. “It was fun but it was a little shocking because we were coming home from Stanford so everyone had been asleep on the plane and was tired but it was a lot of fun.”
