A bromantic relationship

Guys everywhere are scrambling to find a date for February 14. Girls are lining up, awaiting roses and surprise valentines from any boy that can breathe. There is a lot of pressure placed on guys these days to bring out their romantic side, but it doesn’t seem right that it has to be that way. Why can’t guys just stick with their bros on Valentine’s Day?

It may seem a bit controversial for me to say something like that but there is really a soft spot in every guy’s heart for their closest bro. You see them in the halls, always walking together, sometimes greeting one another with that handshake thing. That is just the simple stuff because friendships between bros develop into an unbreakable bond stronger than even the steadiest relationships with the opposite sex.

Relationships can be hard and confusing. Girls have so many complicated “things” and they are constantly switching from wanting more time together to not wanting anything to do with you. The worst is that they don’t just come out and say it. Girls expect guys to just get a hint. Now would a guy ever lead a guy on without just telling him it isn’t going to work out?

Bros are always backing up their other bros. Whether it be on the football field, in the classroom, or at the flagpole after school, they’re always there to stick up for their bud. The tightest knit groups of guys follow one another around wherever they go. The basketball game, they’ll come rolling in all at the same time. Lunch, you already know they have their own table. The art festival, well if one of them is into that, they’ll be there too.

When there is so much support for one another, it is hard to imagine how these guys would not fall in love with each other. Now it isn’t the kind of love you’re familiar with between a girl and guy, but it is much more magical than that. When things get serious, guys could experience the occasional burger run together or a joyride on a sunny afternoon. Guys never turn down an opportunity to get some grub.

Sometimes it gets hard to foster such a close relationship with a bro, especially when there is so much continual pressure to find a girlfriend. Sometimes they have to give in and go out with a girl, but the sweetest thing is how they always circle back to their bros. If you feel so inclined to succumb to the pressures of the world, then so be it, but never forget your closest bros this Valentine’s Day. Always respect the brotherhood.
