The Citizen Bee encourages students to learn about civic awareness, studying things like Supreme Court cases.

Even with UIL still on everyone’s minds, another academic competition is coming to the school. The new competition, the Citizen Bee, is an event that tests a student’s knowledge over political and cultural history, geography, economics, and current events. A competing student will study important documents such as the Constitution and Supreme Court cases.

“The Citizen Bee is a student competition about history, geography, and current events,” teacher Kevin Finn said. “Students will participate individually in a test to then check their knowledge. The entire process is done through the website. It gives the students what they need to know and they can prepare on their own and ask questions when needed.”

Some students are interested in the opportunities the unique competition offers.

“I’m interested in participating in the competition,” junior Jolen Martinez said. “I’ve always enjoyed being a part of competitions like this, that’s why I’m in UIL and Quiz bowl. I really like the fact that it’s all online and I don’t have to worry about after or before school meetings.”

If you’re interested in participating in the Citizen Bee please see Mr. Finn  in D212 by February 9.
