After years and years of demands from fans for a new Ghostbusters film to be made there’s finally official confirmation of the film being in production with the announcement of the cast. The film will be directed by Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, but rather than it being a sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters 2, it will be rebooting the franchise with a new all female team rather than the original four characters Ray, Egon, Peter and Winston made famous by Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson.

The new casts consists of Kristen Wiig (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) Melissa Mccarthy (The Heat) Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live) and Leslie Jones (Saturday Night Live)

“I love the first one so much, I don’t want to do anything to ruin the memory of that,” Feig said to Entertainment Weekly. “It just felt like, let’s just restart it because then we can have new dynamics. I want the technology to be even cooler. I want it to be really scary, and I want it to happen in our world today that hasn’t gone through it so it’s like, oh my God what’s going on?”

The Ghostbusters reboot will be released in theaters July 22, 2016 in the U.S.
