The Vamps are becoming a popular American band despite their British roots.

The American music scene has never been shy about embracing the latest teen heart throb band out of the UK: One Direction, The Wanted and Mcfly, just to name a few. The latest on the scene – The Vamps.

Formed in 2012, and ranging in age from 19 to 21, the boys’ first album, Meet the Vamps, reached a peak of #2 on the UK Charts. An interesting twist on the norm of boybands, Meet the Vamps, features the band members playing their own instruments and incorporating indie flair, but it still can’t cover up the catchy, stereotypical boy band sound.

Comparable to a young very pop sounding American Authors, “Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart)”, “Risk It All” and “Wild Heart” hve a strong quality of indie rock and repetitive beats. Their use of percussion in these tracks really add feeling to the music. The band as a whole really pushes you to dance and clap along.

Though some of the tracks fit the indie rock label, The Vamps certainly won’t be pigeon holed into one category. This band is all over the place with the extremely pop “Somebody to You” to the country rock-ish “Smile”.

Though the first album is a little random, The Vamps have the potential to develop a cohesive sound that will allow them to breakaway from the “boyband” stereotype. Their musicianship is quite good for such young performers and their sound has promise to grow and mature with the band.
