The Red Ledger’s Abbie Omatayo catches up with head girls soccer coach Misty Benson about this year’s soccer season.

Q: Where were you before coming to Lovejoy?
A: I was at Lake Highlands High School.

Q: What made you come to Lovejoy?
A: The opportunity for change and challenge and because the soccer team has an enormous amount of talent and capabilities to do bigger and better things than what they have already done.

Q: How are you trying to change things up?
A: Maybe a little more structure and a little more direction but you know they are a great group of girls with a lot of talent and I think that the talent needs to be tapped into a little bit more.

Q: How did tryouts go?/ or how are they going?
A: Oh they’re good! The girls have been in off-season working hard for the past several months and we got our teams set a couple weeks ago and picked up a couple along the way and the teams are looking really good and strong.

Q: Do you have any plans on changing things up? How will you put your imprint on the program?
A: Probably just adding structure and direction to things, new change is never easy but these girls are coming around and they’re working hard and I’m very very proud of them.
