Star Wars

After Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the original production company of Star Wars, work began on a new Star Wars Trilogy. Recently, the trailer was released with the movie planned to be released in December.

Two years ago, Disney purchased Lucasfilm and announced a brand new trilogy of Star Wars films to start in 2015. Now we finally get to have our first official look at the first film and it does not disappoint.

It begins with a fade into (presumably) the desert of Tatooine alongside a sinister sounding narrator saying, “There has been an awakening… have you felt it?” Enter John Boyega’s character in Stormtrooper armor looking absolutely panicked as we cut to black. We then see a collage of clips showing off a new soccer ball-looking droid, Daisy Ridley’s character, on a speeder bike and the brand new Stormtroopers getting ready for battle.

Cut to a cloaked figure walking through a snowy forest with the same sinister voice proclaiming, “The dark side… and the light.” As the voice speaks, the cloaked figure busts out a lightsaber in a fiery blast which reveals the new design to be reminiscent of a medieval knight  with a lightsaber blade hilt.  The trailer ends with the Millennium Falcon flying through the desert and fighting off some Tie Fighters as the Star Wars theme swells in the background and we cut to the title.

This trailer is brave in the fact that it never shows any of the original cast members (Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford) but instead opts to show the new cast of characters. It doesn’t try to please everyone and simply shows what it’s going to feel like, even if we do not learn any plot details aside from fan speculation.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens Dec. 18, 2015.
