Although the football season is over, the work continues for the Color Guard. The Red Ledger’s Darby Blaylock sat down with Anastasia Shelley to get the inside story on Color Guard.

The Red Ledger: What time do you practice in the mornings?

Shelley: “Monday, Wednesday, Friday we practice 7:30 a.m. and we end at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday we start at 8 a.m. and end at 8:45 a.m.”

The Red Ledger: What is color guard?

Shelley: “During marching season we are the visual arts for the band. During winter guard we are just performers. We perform in a gym with different props and stuff I think it’s more fun then color guard because we get to be ourselves and not have to worry about the band.”

The Red Ledger: Do you go to any competitions?

Shelley: “We do with the marching band. During winter guard we go to our own competition, like 4 or 5 of them.

The Red Ledger: How many flags do you have?

Shelley: “For this show we have 3 different flags and depending on the winter show we might have more. We don’t use just flags we have other props.”

The Red Ledger: How is it practicing out in the parking lot?

Shelley: “It can get annoying but we have to understand it’s not just our parking lot. At first we were really angry but they have gotten better.”
