As the holiday season nears, it is time to narrow down the list of countless games to be released and focus on the sure-to-be hits of this year. Here are five games that are sure to make Thanksgiving and Christmas break a blast.

Far Cry 4 – November 18 (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Sequel to the multiple game of the year (2012) winner Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4 takes place in the beautiful setting of the Himalaya Mountain range. The single player story follows Ajay Ghale, a Nepalese native returning to his native country. Once there, he gets caught up in a civil war where a self appointed king is raising havoc in the countryside. If it is anywhere near as good as Far Cry 3, players will see this game become very successful.

Grand Theft Auto 5 – November 18 (PS4, Xbox One)

The re-release of the multi-million dollar game for next gen consoles, with better graphics and other updates. The single player story still follows the stories of three characters: Michael, Trevor, and Franklin, as they complete bank heists and try to strike it rich.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire – November 21 (Nintendo 3DS)

Remakes of the 2003 Pokemon games, Ruby and Sapphire. Games will have almost the exact same story, with updated graphics and new unique Pokemon.

Super Smash Bros. For WiiU November 21 (Nintendo Wii U)

Release of the hit game Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U. The game was released for 3DS in early October.  Stages will be different from the 3DS version but characters, gameplay, and everything else will be exactly the same.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes – December 18 (PC)

It is part of a series of prequels in the Metal Gear series, taking place after Peace Walker. The game follows main character Snake as he infiltrates a fictional American black site in Cuba called Camp Omega, attempting to rescue a Cipher agent and a Sandinista soldier. This is the PC release but it was originally released in March for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
