Senior Sam Ruhala got 30th at the Gerald Richey Invitational last Saturday with a time of 17:12.0 for his 5k.

The cross country team traveled to Arlington over the weekend for its first meet of the year. To get an update on the how things are going with the squad, The Red Ledger’s Darby Blaylock caught up with boy’s team captain, senior Sam Ruhala.

The Red Ledger: How is this cross-country season going so far?

Ruhala: “The best one yet, I’m excited to see all of us running and racing at the same level.”

The Red Ledger: Are you guys doing anything different this year?

Ruhala: “We are doing more mileage.”

The Red Ledger: What is your average millage?

Ruhala: “This summer I averaged around 70-80 miles a week.”

The Red Ledger: What’s your best mile time?

Ruhala: “4:48”

The Red Ledger: Who is one of the strongest underclassmen?

Ruhala: “Sophomore Garrett Tiff is one of the strongest kids I know.”
