People trying to drive down Stacy Road between Greenville Road and Angel Pkwy. on  Saturday morning found themselves faced with an unplanned detour due to a water line break at approximately 10:30 a.m.

“Well, a 42 inch water line burst across the street this morning,” construction inspector Mitch Harrison said.

A large amount of water surged from where the pipe burst, just before Lost Creek Drive, across Stacy Road. Traffic was diverted from Stacy Road south down Lost Creek and eventually towards Allen Heights Drive.

“The pipe has basically just corroded over time,” Harrison said. “It burst because of age.”

Though hundreds of gallons of water gushed from the pipe, local water service was not disrupted.

“[This burst] has not effected any homes in the area,” Harrison said. “This is a supply line for North Texas Municipal Water District. It does supply the city of Allen, but we have a number of other ways to get water to homes at this time. Nobody will be out of water because of this.”

Within a couple of hours, everything was back to normal, however, no word on when the pipe will be fixed.

“We are still ‘in limbo’ as to who is going to fix it and how long it will take,” Harrison said.
