New video game like Destiny

Game developer Bungie released its new title, Destiny, on September 9 , amid months of hype. Bungie is well known for the Xbox exclusive Halo series, and it is unfortunate to say that Destiny is  not on par with its earlier sci-fi work. Unlike Halo, Destiny is an massive online first person shooter, with a world double the size and hundreds of customization options. Even for a console only game, Destiny is gorgeous, though not the best the system (game was reviewed on PS4) has to offer at the moment.

In game, there are three classes for players to choose from: Titan, Hunter, and Warlock. Hunters have more of a stealth mode that doesn’t rely on brute force. But if that’s what is wanted, Titans are the way to go as they are made for heavy armor and lots of  heavy gunplay. Meanwhile, Warlock’s have extremely  powerful  spells that can be conjured. No matter the play style, each class is enjoyable to figure out and play.

There are also Battlefield like team deathmatch games, co-op campaign, and solo missions. The story is interesting, but most missions follow the same formula: run, gun, loot, run some more. It is done extremely well and will hold a player’s attention for a very long time, but it is a formula that permeates the entire game. Less than a week after it’s release, players have already beaten the game. The campaign is extremely short, and has a anticlimactic ending that leaves players feeling let down.

All that aside, Destiny is an engrossing and wonderful experience. The game runs smoothly, with no graphic or other glitches. The controls are easy to learn and work very well with the top notch voice acting. All in all, Destiny is worth it, but players must realize that it is not another installment in the Halo franchise. It is a worthwhile game, but it was unfortunately overhyped to the max and is not worth the $60 asking price for such a short story.
