Local tutoring offers aid for exam preparation

Frantic studying, headaches and fears of failing can only mean one thing this time of year: exam season is here. For students looking for extra help, there are many local tutoring centers available for extra studying.
“We offer one on one tutoring,” Tutoring101’s, Tanya Donaghey said. “Or we can arrange a study group if two or more of your friends have the same teacher. We tutor all subjects.”
That extra help is available for all class levels, including AP.
“Or most popular subjects are AP classes,” Donaghey said. “SAT and ACT prep is very popular as well.”
For those who need help in math, Mathnasium, also located in Allen, can offer a specialized math focus.
“You want to view us as math teaching experts,” Mathnasium’s Akshaya Trivedi said. “We want to teach math, we want to make math make sense, and to make that happen, you really need to build on the foundational gaps that are missing in the student’s concepts.”
Mathnasium is more of a long-term program, so for students who have been struggling in math for years, Mathnasium might be the perfect place to get ahead.
“We want to create a lasting impression on the math we teach,” Trivedi said. “So I would not define our program as ‘fix my problem tomorrow because I have an exam coming tomorrow or I have a STAAR test in one week’, you want to view us as math teaching experts. We want to teach math, we want to make math make sense.”
A third place available for tutoring is the Kumon Math and Reading Center, also conveniently located in Allen.
“Kumon puts [students] on the path to becoming the confident, independent, self-reliant people all parents hope their children can be,” Kumon’s Alice Wang said. “Each time our students tackle and overcome a new challenge, their confidence grows.”
