School dance vs. sweat pants

School dance vs. sweat pants

Jayme Allen, STaff Reporter

I’m not going to prom.

Not necessarily because I don’t have a date, (I mean I could probably get one if I really tried); it’s mostly because I really don’t want to go.

Of course I’ve thought about it- it is my senior prom, after all, but it’s really been a year long debate: school dance versus sweat pants.

School Dance = prom dress

Sweat Pants = sweat pants

Yeah, it’s always nice to get dressed up and feel pretty, but I don’t feel the need to spend a lot of money on a dress I’ll only wear once.

Sweat Pants 1 : School Dance 0

School Dance = fancy meal with friends, trip to Dallas in a party bus

Sweat Pants = Taco Bell

I hate going to expensive restaurants and I don’t know how to interact with people, especially when it’s loud. I tend to feel very awkward very easily, so a party bus holds no appeal for me.

Sweat Pants 2 : School Dance 0

School Dance = the memories and pictures that come with a senior prom

Sweat Pants = selfies with the Taco Bell staff and a few extra calories

I guess I have to give this one to the dance, there’s nothing quite like pictures from a school formal and those “remember at prom..?” stories you’ll have forever.

Sweat Pants 2 : School Dance 1

School Dance = could cost as much as $500 a couple

Sweat Pants = $5 for a dinner at Taco Bell

If you think about it, one couple could pay for 100 Taco Bell meals between the two of them.

Sweat Pants 3 : School Dance 1

School Dance = weeks of aching misery while planning with your prom group

Sweat Pants = worrying about what movie you’ll rent that night, and what flavor ice cream will accompany you.

I’ve seen my friends all but rip their hair out over prom planning, leaving me to thank my lucky stars I’m not a part of it.

Sweat Pants 4 : School Dance 1

In the end, it was a close match (OK, not really), but prom doesn’t outweigh the benefits of a night in my sweats.
