The softball team has officially put the 2013 season to rest. Losing in the state championship was painful, but the 2014 season is officially underway as the team is back from a tournament in Bryan-College Station.

Finishing with a 2-3 record in the tournament, the team hit five home runs in five games.

Not the perfect way to start the season, but it’s nothing head coach Amanda Douglas is too worried about.

“We have 3 seasons to the softball season.  We have the first season, pre-district, which only counts toward our record and nothing more. This is the time the girls get thrown into lots of games with very little preparation work (especially on actual dirt because of the weather),” Douglas said. “This is the season we take notes and work on improvements during our practices. The second season, which counts, is our district season. Hopefully by this time, we have worked out the kinks through our tournaments and practices, and we see everything come together.  The final season for softball is the post-season where competition is raised to a different level. We are currently in the first season, where the coaches see where we need a little extra work, and focus on those aspects.”
