The nominees for the McDonald’s All American basketball team have been announced and senior Lady Leopard Shani Rainey has made the cut.

Rainey was excited to receive this honor.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Rainey said. “My first thought was ‘NO WAY!?!??! Like this has to be a dream!’ I couldn’t believe that out of all the people in the country I was even nominated to represent.”

1,000 basketball players from across the United States (boys and girls) of the 2014 class are listed as nominees on the McDonald’s All American website.

McDonald’s All Americans have included Kevin Durant, Michael Jordan, Maya Moore and Lebron James among many other famous alums.

The All American Team will be announced on January 29 on ESPNU at 5:00 p.m. after a long voting process.

“The voting process for the McDonald’s All American Games Final Teams involves the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee,” according to “Team Selection Process”. “The Selection Committee is comprised of some of the nation’s most knowledgeable high school analysts, prep scouts, high school newspaper reporters and prestigious basketball coaches.”

These officials will make a decision after four rounds (including a preliminary round) narrowing the All American teams down to 24 girls and 24 boys.

“Even if I don’t make the final team, it’s still an incredible feeling knowing I have made it this far,” Rainey said.
