Oh the weather outside is frightful, but Fairview is so delightful this holiday season. Here are 10 wonderful things to do around town when the weather is cold.

  1. Allen Ice Skating: It’s hard to find a lot of frozen ponds in Texas, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give ice skating a try. Pack up the mittens and take a group of friends to hang out during open skate. Even if none of you can make it two feet without toppling over each other, it will make for a frosty day full of laughs.

  2. Chick-fil-A:  Sure everyone goes for the chicken minis, but around the holidays Chick-fil-A brings in some new treats. Holiday decor, peppermint shakes and even the appearance of the Chickfila cow stops by and shares in the festive fun.

  3. Horse rides:  Let’s take a sleigh ride together or maybe just a horse drawn carriage ride through Watters Creek. Take your family, friends or someone special to snuggle up with on a beautiful horse ride and gaze at the holiday lights. These complimentary rides are available at Water’s Creek every Monday.

  4. Chess in The Grotto: If you are a brave soul, willing to brave the cold, try hanging out in The Village Grotto. Bundle up and get cozy by the fireplace or challenge some friends in larger than life chess. Your nose may be pink, but so will the glow from the warm fire.

  5. Nutcracker Ballet: For a traditional winter treat, go see a performance of The Nutcracker Ballet. The closest production is by The Collin County Ballet Theatre. This classic tale is showing at The Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts in Richardson, Texas on December 21 and 22 at 6 p.m. There is also a matinee performance on December 23 at 2 p.m.

  6. Santa: You are never too old to visit the big guy. Gather some friends, take some cheesy holiday pictures and visit Old Saint Nick at The Village of Allen. Hosted by the Hilton Garden Inn, The Big Guy is taking pictures up until December 24.

  7. The Herd Dinosaur Lights: If you care for a stroll in the snow to see some dinosaurs decked out for the holidays. A place where the past comes alive, The Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary is home to animatronic dinosaurs decked out in holiday lights until February 4, 2014.

  8. Splitsville: Who doesn’t love showing off their victory dance while munching on some diner style treats? Splitsville is great local spot for the winter. This casual bowling location is the perfect place to chill out and stay warm yet active when the weather is just unbearable.

  9. Heated Yoga: Imagine stepping out of the freezing temperatures into a serene studio at a warm 100 degrees. Vibe Yoga in The Village of Allen is a wonderful spot to relax. For the regular yoga guru or just a beginner who wants another way to unwind and work on your flexibility, Vibe Yoga is a wonderful way to start off any morning or finish up a long, tiring day.

  10. Tree Lighting: At The Grove in The Village of Allen is a magnificently lit tree. This giant tree is lit with 100,000 dazzling lights that perform a lovely show every fifteen minutes. This sparkly tree is located right by a cozy fireplace and lounge hangout. A great way to get into the Christmas spirit.
