Senior basketball player Jordan Reed is amidst his biggest season yet. As a commit to Rice University for basketball, Reed wants to impress his future coaches and not let his current ones down.

The Red Ledger: How does it feel to be in your last basketball season of your high school career?

Jordan Reed: “It’s exciting man, but it’ll be sad to see it end.”

The Red Ledger: Does your commitment to play at Rice University affect your performance and work ethic?

Reed: “I try not to focus on the future too much. I work my tail off to become a better player now, with hopes I will be even better tomorrow. I know that I have to be the best I can be for the high school team, and be able to perform at the next level as well.”

The Red Ledger: What are your priorities for preparing for college sports?

Reed: “Don’t slack off. Even though I already signed a deal to play college basketball, that doesn’t mean that I don’t have to worry about success in high school basketball, or more importantly, my grades.”

The Red Ledger: What was going through your mind when you signed your name to commit to Rice?

Reed: “It was like I was living a lifelong dream. I’ve always wanted to be able to play college basketball, and I was like ‘wow, is this really happening?’. It really gives me something to look forward to.”

The Red Ledger: What do the coaches and your teammates expect from you?

Reed: “They expect me to do my best all the time. To go all-out all the time. Nothing less.”

The Red Ledger: Did their attitude change after you signed?

Reed: “They were all happy for me, but after the fact we’re a team and our main focus is to win games.”

The Red Ledger: What is your mindset going through the season?

Reed: “Help my team win, and focus on improving as a teammate, player, and making sure my grades don’t drop.”
