Friday, November 22, is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of our 35th President John F. Kennedy. He was shot in Downtown Dallas in 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. This year city officials have planned programs starting approximately 12:30 p.m., the same time the president was shot.

Security will be tight and police will have Dealey Plaza blocked off and will move 5,000 ticketed guests onto the plaza.  In addition, Dallas county offices will be closed Friday due to the events, meaning place such as the George Allen Courts Building, the Frank Crowley Courts Building, the county tax office, the county Health and Human Services Department, and the county elections department will be closed.

The Sixth Floor Museum, the exhibit of Kennedy and his assassination, will be open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and will have extended hours throughout November.  According to the Dallas Morning News, “For the fiscal year that ended in September, the museum attracted 342,000 visitors, up to 17 percent of them from out of the country. The museum expects 350,000 this year, with part of the boost due to the anniversary.”
