Shots fired outside US Capitol

One officer injured today when shots were fired at the Capitol building.

The Capitol building is no longer on lockdown after shots where fired outside at approximately 2:26 EST. While Senate was in session, Rep. Gerry Connolly (R-Virginia) and Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pennsylvania) saw gunshots being fired, and people fleeing at the Capitol, according to a Washington Post article. One Capitol police officer was injured, and subsequently airlifted to a nearby hospital.
According to news reports, the situation began with a car chase, and there no apparent ties to terrorism.
