Goodbye Breaking Bad

Since January 20 2008, Fans get chills hearing the first few chords of the “Breaking Bad” theme song. A show dedicated to the story of a man and his battle to his way to being the top meth cook across the country, his tragic fall and the repercussions it left on his family. 10.3 million people watched AMC at 8 p.m on Sunday September 29 as Walter White’s journey came to an end.

In the epic finale viewers follow Walter White (Bryan Cranston) tie up loose ends. White insures the safety of his family, gets his revenge and ends the series with an incredibly sad yet satisfying ending. The death of Walter White. Viewers have watched this character go from chemistry teacher, to worried father, to Heisenberg, but at the end of this series he died as Walt. At peace and ready for his life to be out of his hands.

Revenge was a prominent theme in the final episode. It was incredibly satisfying for viewers to watch Walt poison the sneaky and backstabbing Lydia, and to witness as Jesse snapped the neck of Todd, the bipolar psychopath who killed his girlfriend Andrea in “Granite State”. Walt also managed to take out the cruel hitmen who killed his brother-in-law, Hank. Walt’s evil mastermind brain was put to the test when he built an automatic machine gun that, with the push of a button, murdered nearly the entire crew. Revenge served as Walt and Jesse’s form of justice that they so rightfully deserved in the last episode. It was bloody, but very sweet.

After the premiere, Vince Gilligan talked about the episode on “Talking Bad”. The creator thanked long time viewers and described the devotion the cast and crew has given to the show. Gilligan explained his point of view when writing the series finale and how he didn’t want the season running too long or to become dry. He was not surprised to hear that many of his fans were sad when Walt died. “I want the audience to rediscover empathy.” Gilligan said during the show. The series was summed up with no loose endings. Jesse is free to start a new life, revenge is achieved and Walter White closes out his great saga.

Overall the finale was satisfying, but left a “Breaking Bad” shaped hole in our hearts. After following the life of Walter White for 5 seasons, the fans were a little heartbroken to watch the man who endured it all die with a smile on his face in a meth lab, the place that started it all. Unfortunately, with this tragic ending comes a sad good bye to “Breaking Bad”.
