First Facebook, then Twitter, then Instagram, and now Vine.

Vine is the most recent social media craze. The application allows the user to post six second videos that play in a loop. Six seconds may not sound like a long time, but the user has the ability to be creative when recording their Vine by having multiple frames in the short amount of time.

The app is not only popular because of the ability to record, but because of the entertainment provided by the most popular Vine users. The most followed Vine accounts in order are ex-”Drake and Josh” actor Josh Peck, singer-songwriter Nickolas Megalis, Brittany Furlan, and Marcus Johns.

“I like Vine, because some stuff is funny and I like to laugh,” sophomore Sara Griffith said, “Parker Kitt Hill (another popular account) is my favorite Viner, because he is really funny and original.”

Companies are beginning to use Vine as a marketing tool by contacting popular “Viners” and creating short, funny ads that millions of people see. Companies using the tool include Oreo, Calvin Klein, Urban Outfitters, General Electric and many more.

Some students on campus put a lot of time and effort into their Vines, trying to make them as funny as possible. A few students have even got thousands of likes and reVines.

“I think Greg Watson has really funny Vines,” junior Emmaline Stockton said.

Recording Vines is something Watson likes to do in his spare time.

“Usually I get bored at home or I am not doing anything, and then an idea will pop in my head or I’ll see something that makes me think of a Vine to make,” junior Greg Watson said.
