The sun has set on the reign of summer and high school has resumed, bringing with it a new class of freshmen who have never before coped with the high school experience in all its glory and rigor.

“The classroom is a lot more work, but it’s good work and it’s a lot more focused,” freshman Blake Pfaff said.

The new freshmen have been forced to master the new procedures and traditions that come with the marked transition from middle to high school, including the challenge of the high-school classroom.

“There’s more work in them (the classes), but it’ll challenge us more, and that’s a good thing,” freshman Shelby Hughes said.

The new class of AP human geography is also available for the first year ever, allowing the new freshmen to experience an AP class.

“So far it has been challenging but not too over the top,” Pfaff said. “I enjoy the class discussion. It gives me a good feeling about AP classes, and I’m looking forward to taking many in the future.”

Some of the freshmen also have the benefit of guidance from those who have already survived the first year of high school, giving them extra advice and help as they continue to adjust.

“I’ve dealt with it pretty well because I have an older brother; he’s a senior, so he helped me a little bit,” freshman Jackson Rexford said.
