Founder’s Day welcomes freshman to high school
August 20, 2013
The change from middle school to high school may be both stressful and nerve wracking for many freshman. In the effort to ease the transition, the school will be hosting Freshman Founder’s Day on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Founder’s Day is a way for students to tour the school, meet the teachers, and get a head start of the first day of high school.
“The idea is to build them up as a class and to, of course, introduce them to high school and to the teacher’s expectations in a low-stress environment,” student council sponsor Tami Parker said.
Although many of the incoming freshman have been together since elementary school, Founder’s Day provides a way to introduce them to the change between high school and middle school and as a way to answer many of the students questions before their first day.
“I think it’s a great idea because it helps show the incoming freshman where everything is and also help us figure out what to expect,” freshman Tyler Scott said.
That’s the ultimate goal of Founder’s Day.
“There really is nothing worse than showing up to school and not know where you’re supposed to be and when, and that’s what we are trying to fix,” Parker said.
