Sophomore Noah Landguth and the rest of the cross country team will be competing in the State Meet Saturday in Round Rock.

As most sports come to an end for summer vacation, the cross country team keeps running over the break. The athletes and their coaches continue working out daily over summer, not to mention their annual trip to Taos, New Mexico.

“We practice every day on running our mileage, and we do core workouts and core practice,” junior Keirsten Lindelof said.

Several ab workouts are planned daily for runners, as well as their runs and buildups that the whole team participates in.

“Over the summer, what we usually do is long distance that’s kind of slow to build up for base mileage,” sophomore Noah Landguth said.  “Towards the peak of our workouts during the summer we’ll do 10 to 12 miles [the varsity guys do].”

Coaches Greg Christiansen and Stephanie Longhenning also hold several trips to Taos, New Mexico, where athletes train together for a week.

“We go to Taos the beginning weeks of July, and we take a week for varisty, a week a JV,” Lindelof said

All runners will be practicing together Monday through Friday weekly, starting at 6:45 p.m. for offseason workouts.

“I plan to improve as a coach and get the kids better prepared for next year,” Christiansen said.
