Trying to spark a Leopard rally, senior outfielder Austin Turnbow touches first base just as the throw gets there. The Leopards were unable to rally from an 8-2 deficit and went on to lose the playoff series to Longview Pine Tree.

The Leopard baseball’s season was cut short Saturday as they lost two games to Longview Pine Tree after winning game one on Thursday 11-2.

The second game of the three game series started out with Pine Tree scoring two runs in the first inning with the Leopards unable to come back from the early deficit.

Pine Tree set a season high with 16 hits resulting in an 8-2 win and setting up a winner take all game three.

Once again, the Pirates jumped out to a lead, putting up 5 runs in the first inning. The Leopards though, were able to match it. The team scored once before freshman Jacob Parrott hit a grand slam to tie it 5-5 going into the second.

After a scoreless second inning, the Leopards were able to go up 6-5 in the third inning courtesy of an infield error by Pine Tree.

But in the fourth inning Leopard pitching faltered and the Pirates unleashed an offensive outburst, sending 19 batters to the plate and scoring 15 times to take the lead 20-6. Longview Pine Tree was able to tack on 3 more runs winning by a final score of 23-8, knocking the Leopards out of playoffs and bring their season to a close.

Jessica Parrott, Sports Editor
Jessica Parrott is a senior, meaning she not only runs the sports section of The Red Ledger, but also the school. With her best friend and fellow staff member Julia Carder by her side, Jessica is going to make this year the best yet. Her favorite sport to cover is football, not only does she love the game but she also loves the boys. Nah, just kidding… slightly. As a senior, Jessica knows that she can literally do anything she wants. Anything. Her favorite saying is “Lord love a duck,” a frequent exclamation made when people do appalling things. She is hoping to attend either Texas Tech or Texas A&M but is also considering Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas. Ya never know though. She is obsessed with both Friday Night Lights and Gossip Girl, two drastically different shows. The way to her heart is a large Diet Coke from McDonald’s and cabana bowl from Taco Cabana. She is from Boerne, Texas, a suburb outside of San Antonio and she believes to this day that it is the closest to heaven on earth you can get, it’s the Hill Country, it doesn’t get much better. She loves riding boots, flowy tops, and her Texas James Avery ring. Thanks and Gig ‘em, Wreck ‘em, Sic ‘em, Go Pokes, Woo Pig! She’ll let ya know when she decides on a school ;)
