Careers coming to a close

Four years of hitting in the cages, four years of freezing tryouts, four years with an L on their chests.  For the 10 seniors on the varsity baseball team, time is running out in their playing career as a Leopard.

The team plays its final District 13-4A game on Friday at Wylie East.  With a playoff spot already clinched, the team is guaranteed at least two more games.   But when the season is over, college will be on the horizon.

With that being said, here is a list of where each senior player will be going and his likely major:

Tanner DeVinny: Kansas State University, Business

Tom Campbell: Texas A&M University, Sports Management

Logan Michaels: Seminole State (OK), Physical Therapy

Mason Chase: Texas A&M University, Mechanical Engineering

Taylor Neitsch: University of Oklahoma, Petroleum Engineering

Cameron Barajas: University of Arkansas, Business Finance with a minor in Business Marketing

Kyle McGuinness: (undecided), Psychology (most likely)

Austin Turnbow: (most likely) Abilene Christian University, Pre-Pharmacy

Dane Fuentes: University of Dallas, Business

Kyle Berger: Texas A&M, Environmental Design

While most of graduating Leopards will be pursuing a college education next year, only a few will continue their baseball career; DeVinny at Kansas State, Michaels at Seminole St., and Fuentes at University of Dallas.

“I committed to K-State in October after officially visiting the campus,” DeVinny said. “It is the best place for me at the right time and it just feels like a good fit. I love Manhattan and I love the baseball program. I also got a 60% scholarship.”

Jessica Parrott, Sports Editor
Jessica Parrott is a senior, meaning she not only runs the sports section of The Red Ledger, but also the school. With her best friend and fellow staff member Julia Carder by her side, Jessica is going to make this year the best yet. Her favorite sport to cover is football, not only does she love the game but she also loves the boys. Nah, just kidding… slightly. As a senior, Jessica knows that she can literally do anything she wants. Anything. Her favorite saying is “Lord love a duck,” a frequent exclamation made when people do appalling things. She is hoping to attend either Texas Tech or Texas A&M but is also considering Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas. Ya never know though. She is obsessed with both Friday Night Lights and Gossip Girl, two drastically different shows. The way to her heart is a large Diet Coke from McDonald’s and cabana bowl from Taco Cabana. She is from Boerne, Texas, a suburb outside of San Antonio and she believes to this day that it is the closest to heaven on earth you can get, it’s the Hill Country, it doesn’t get much better. She loves riding boots, flowy tops, and her Texas James Avery ring. Thanks and Gig ‘em, Wreck ‘em, Sic ‘em, Go Pokes, Woo Pig! She’ll let ya know when she decides on a school ;)

Sad to see our leopards going to do bigger and better things. What a fiasco!
