As the school year closes in on its end, it’s just the beginning for the next class of National Honor Society inductees. With this year’s seniors wrapping up their high school NHS careers, more than a hundred underclassmen are ready to take over the service and academic program that requires service hours each semester.
“Giving back to one’s community, helping the underprivileged, is a responsibility in which everyone should participate,” NHS sponsor Ginny Clark said. “The NHS, along with other service organizations in the school, enrich the lives of LHS students by affording them opportunities in which to serve.”
Students who are able to apply to the National Honor Society gain knowledge and experience through their service, and reap the rewards in their future.
“I think it challenges you to do better and we know it helps us in the future because its awesome to have on college applications” sophomore Elle Traweek said.
Not only can NHS help students in the future, but it also creates a well rounded person by giving students an opportunity to serve others and the community.
“It’s good for the organization to be a part of and to sponsor that gets bigger and bigger and bigger over the years,” Principal Gavin Goodrich said. “It is our most prestigious and strongest service organization we have at this school.”
