Sophomore Jake Baumert is unbelievably strong, especially for an underclassmen, and he proved it at the varsity’s powerlifting meet–benching 400 pounds.
“I feel pretty accomplished to hold a school record as a sophomore,” Baumert said.
Building up to his weight range takes determination and years of hard work.
“I started weight lifting at age 10,” Baumert said.
A hulk for his age, Baumert works out about six times a week to be the best he can be. Though he is consumed with working out, he also enjoys other things like eating steak and watching Duck Dynasty.
“My favorite show is Duck Dynasty; when I have the free time to watch it,” Baumert said.
Baumert has set huge goals to accomplish by his senior year.
“By the time I’m a senior I want to go to state for powerlifting and place,” Baumert said.
Although Baumert enjoys the sport, his long-term plan doesn’t include powerlifting after high school.
“I don’t plan on powerlifting after my senior year because of football,” Baumert said.
