The Lovejoy Lunatics started as a simple idea between upcoming seniors and they have evolved into the game day tradition many in the school have grown to love.
“This summer Arun Sethi and I decided we wanted to go all out this year on spirit because it was our senior year, and we want to leave high school with no regrets,” senior Kyle Berger said. “Plus, we are both huge Aggie fans and we love the feeling of students coming together and doing chants to build spirit.”
The Lunatics are about more than dressing up and doing chants. They are all about showing as much support for the school’s teams as possible, and bringing the student body together to make it happen.
“It’s about getting rowdy and pushing the students to get enthusiastic about their school sports teams, and as an athlete, I know how the fans feed into a players adrenaline,” Berger said. “We feel that the louder and crazier the fans are, the better our teams will play.”
The boys that started this game-day tradition hope that the same school spirit and support for the school’s teams will continue with each upcoming class.
“We love our school and we hope they always win, so we enjoy making that happen,” senior Tanner DeVinny said.
As part of it, the Lunatics now have shirts that are on sale.
“This year’s shirt will be red Dri-Fit, short-sleeved shirts featuring the same “LL” Texas that is on the gym floor, and the shirts are selling for only 15 dollars,” senior Arun Sethi said.
Shirts can be previewed on senior DeVinny’s Twitter page. Money will not be accepted after Friday.
