November and December are among the biggest movie-going months of the year. Bringing quality cinema and big blockbusters, this period of the year, known as the Holiday Season, brings so many big movies that you might need help sorting through them all. With that being said, “ The Red Ledger” takes a gander at the 10 best movies coming in the next two months.
10. “Monsters Inc. 3D” – A nostalgia trip at it’s finest, Monsters Inc. 3D will allow a whole new generation of kids to know the lyrics for “put that kid back where it came from OR SO HELP ME!!” Plus, with the success they had for Finding Nemo 3D, it’s genuinely exciting to think about what they might do to world of Monstropolis. Look for this one to be an uplifting treat come Christmas time.

9. “Flight” – Robert Zemeckis directed a ton of great movies in his early days: “Back To The Future”, “Forrest Gump” and “Cast Away” come to mind. But starting with
“The Polar Express”, he’s only made movies that employ animation/motion-capture. Thankfully, “Flight” marks his triumphant return to live-action filmmaking and with his return he brings a fascinating stor, about a heroic yet troubled pilot to life. With Denzel Washington and a great ensemble cast by his side, “Flight” looks like it just might soar.

8. “Hitchcock” – Anthony Hopkins is a wonderful actor. Sure, the occasional flick like “The Wolfman” can mar his reputation a tad, but stuff like “Silence of The Lambs” make him an eternally good actor. Thanks to his unlikely role of famous director Alfred Hitchcock, there’s buzz that Hopkins might get an Oscar nomination for his role. Whether he does or not, he looks like he’s giving a fine performance and the plot looks like a nice way to see the famed director in a whole new light. Should be a movie to makes every film-lover go psycho.

“Hitchcock” arrives November 23 in limited release and will expand to more theaters in December
7. “Les Miserables” – One of the most famous plays is brought to the silver screen with an all-star cast and epic budget. Worthy, isn’t it, for a show so grand in scope yet so intimate in terms of emotion and characters? Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe will be among the cast that’ll belt the famous Broadway tunes and to say I’m excited to see these actors interact is an understatement. This brutally harsh drama looks to be a beautifully designed and staged movie that’ll send chills up your spine with it’s awesome music and actors. What more could you want out of a movie?

6. “Rise of The Guardians” – DreamWorks Animation continues to make movies that are of higher quality than you’d expect and one can hope “Rise of The Guardians” continues that trend. The unique premise (Santa, Easter Bunny, Jack Frost and Toothy Fairy fight evil together) looks to be complemented by gorgeous animation, surprisingly well-stylized action and warm humor. All of these elements look to be making a wonderful movie that won’t just entertain families, but also people of all ages. Count me in as one of the many who believe in these Guardians!

5. “Silver Linings Playbook” – Bradley Cooper, when did you become such a big dramatic actor? Following his turn in “The Words”, he returns to play a man with bipolar disorder who finds love. It’s been playing at some film festivals for about a month now, and it’s earned nothing but rave reviews. Add to that fine looking performances from Robert De Niro and Jennifer Lawrence (where’s your bow and arrow, Katniss?) and you have what looks like a crowd-pleasing classic.

4. “Skyfall” – James Bond has had his ups and downs (Casino Royale was beyond awesome, but “Quantum of Solace” was what no Bond movie should be: boring) but judging by fantastic trailers and early astronomically positive buzz, this should be one of Bond’s biggest ups ever. Director Sam Mendes looks to bring Bond up to date with a cyber-terrorist being the bad guy this time around, but all the Bond hallmarks (gorgeous Bond girls, epic set pieces, the humorous lines) seem firmly in place. 007 looks to be back and better than ever.

3. “Django Unchained” – Slavery, German bounty hunters, graphic violence; sound like a depressing drama? Not when brilliant director Quentin Tarantino is around! The director of Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill brings his inspired writing and violent style to the old West. Here, Jamie Foxx plays Django, a slave who teams up with Schultz, a German bounty hunter, to rescue his wife. The best part? The man holding her hostage is Leonardo DiCaprio, playing the bad guy and having a blast doing it. This looks like more fun than it has any right to be and should be a joy to witness. Probably one of the best Christmas gifts you could ever ask for, Django looks to be a blast.

2. “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” – Peter Jackson returns to Middle Earth, to every moviegoer’s delight. Showing Bilbo Baggins’ epic journey that would inadvertently lead up to the Lord of The Rings trilogy, you can expect familiar faces (Gollum! Gandalf! Elrond!) and some new ones (howdy Thorin!) Also expect fantastic action sequences and some wonderfully implemented 3D to boot. The first part of a trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey should be a fantastic journey back into the land of Hobbits, magic and my preciousssssss.

1. “Wreck-It Ralph” – Disney has hit perhaps the best idea of any movie this year: giving life to those beloved video game characters. Already, the trailer gives emotion and humanity to a video game baddie who just wants to be good. Actually, the trailer itself may be one of my favorites for any movie this year: showing off emotion, humor and the world of the movie itself, it’s the perfect display of what Wreck-It Ralph will be. My excitement for this one can’t even be contained, it’s at such fever pitch. By far my most anticipated movie this Holiday season, Wreck-It Ralph looks to be a brilliant piece of filmmaking that we’ll be talking about for years to come.
