Having ran during the summer for the past four years in order to get ready for the cross-country season, I’ve learned how tough it is to run out in Texas summer heat. Here are a few tips from my experience for all those that are trying to stay fit during the summer through running.
- Drink, drink, and drink as much water as you can throughout the day. When you’re running out in ninety-five degree heat, it is pretty easy to get dehydrated, and no one wants to get a heat stroke.
- Plan your runs in the mornings or the afternoons, because during these periods of the day it is a little bit cooler.
- Also try to map out your runs so you know how far you are going. Don’t just go running somewhere thinking that it is only two miles by your judgment. No one wants to be running more than what they wanted and be exhausted by the mid point way of the run.
- Try to run light. Don’t wear heavy clothing so that you can take advantage of any breezes that hit you along the way. Also, wearing clothes with light colors will better reflect the sun’s rays.
- A real life saver would be to map out your runs with water fountains along the way so that you can keep yourself hydrated throughout the whole run.
