After months of preparation, a week of festivities, pictures, dinner, and more, prom took place on Saturday, May 5 at the Lakewood Theatre in Dallas.
The venue was a unique choice, a lot different than last year at the Allen Event Center.
“Mrs. Petty had actually watched a wedding show, and she remembered that the host had done a wedding at the theatre before, so we went down there and we ended up loving it,” junior student council member Ashley Sereno said.
The theatre was both fun and for some, a little cramped.
“The venue was fun, but a little small,” senior Nichole Wierschem said. “It was also really loud. I know it’s supposed to be loud, but it was almost too loud, to where you couldn’t hear anyone.”
Senior Danielle Stevens also saw a problem with the lack of space.
“No one really wanted to dance on the floor, but the stage was really tiny and there was hardly any room to move,” Stevens said.
The dance was months in the making, and took many different people, including a prom committee, to plan.
“The whole committee had different groups to plan different things,” junior Ida Esfandiari said. “I was in fundraising, but we also had to plan the DJ, the snacks, and the decorations.”
“We had 5 mandatory meetings for anyone in prom committee to plan it. We also had a couple of other meetings, like when we visited Lakewood theatre, that only about 5 or 6 of us went to,” Esfandiari said.
Fundraising was another responsibility for the prom committee.
“We sold lollipops in the weeks before to pay for everything, and we had a dodge ball tournament that was really successful,” Esfandiari said.
The night’s DJ was familiar with Lovejoy dances.
“DJ P has DJ’d a lot of our dances, and he’s friends with some of the administrators, so he was an obvious choice,” Sereno said.
However, his services did not please all students.
“The DJ was pretty cool, but they interrupted songs a lot for talking which was annoying,” Wierschem said. “They also replayed a couple of songs.”
The night’s theme, “Here’s to our night” was displayed outside the theatre and where students were welcomed in via a red carpet outside the entrance.
“We actually got the venue first, and then the theme seemed to work really well with the whole theatre idea,” Sereno said.

the dance was not fun it was too small and dj sucked. like i understand lovejoy has its little bubble but dont you think they put us through enough just to give us one night where everything could be perfect and we could dance and have a special night with the seniors who are about to be out of the bubble with a reality check!
