No love for Valentine’s Day

No+love+for+Valentines+Day

Valentines Day, a day for love, chocolate, flowers, tears, heartbreaks, and tissues.   A day for many couples to flaunt around and show off there perfect relationship, but wake up! If you really love someone you should show him or her everyday. There doesn’t need to be a designated day.

First off, we are in high school. We don’t know what love is. It’s a waste of time and always leads to heartbreak. The only chocolate I will eat on Valentines Day will be on my couch, while I watch The Notebook because I am single and have nothing better to do or no one to spend it with. Valentine’s Day is a way for companies to make money and for single people to feel more insecure about themselves and their ability to get a significant other.

Valentine’s Day is a joke. Everybody remembers making mini mailboxes out of shoes boxes. But that was in what, 2nd grade? Now it’s all about who can buy the biggest, most expensive gift. Our generation has completely manipulated the real purpose of Valentine’s Day to make it amusing for the ones in a relationship and to make the singles ones feel bad for themselves.

I just love walking around in public places on Valentine’s Day; I see more PDA than an Austin Powers movie. For some odd reason couples think everyone wants to see how happy they are. But sorry, no one wants to see that.

My favorite thing about Valentines Day is to see all the girls running around looking for a guy. Some people just don’t want to be alone on a day like this. Meanwhile, there are guys out there that can’t handle the pressure and bail about a week before Valentine’s Day. That is probably the worst feeling; feeling like you did something wrong or you weren’t good enough. But I promise you, if you get dumped a week before Valentines Day—he was never worth it in the beginning!

So girls, don’t feel bad if you’re wearing sweat pants, eating a box of chocolates that your mom bought you. And guys, please don’t worry or care too much. (Yes sarcasm intended).

Greetings children. My name is Darby Darton Blaylock. I am 17 years old. I have been apart of the newspaper staff for 6 years now. I enjoy it for the most part. I love to fish and be outside. I will not watch any Nicholas Sparks movies. Ever. I listen to older rock, alternative music, and a little country here and there. I play soccer for Andromeda FC, and for the school. I am scared of ladybugs because when I was 5 I swear one bit me. I am a morning person, and I was voted most likely to wear track-shorts.

Thank you for speaking the truth. Valentine’s Day is so over rated. You don’t need a boy/girlfriend to have a good Valentine’s day.
