Girls basketball takes down Community

Elizabeth Bower, Staff Repoter

The girl’s basketball team took on the Community Braves at home on February 7. The team first recognized senior post Kendall Crisp and senior trainer Cassie Miller, who have been involved in the program for six years. After the recognition ceremony, the team got ready to play. The girls started off strong, scoring on one of the first few plays. They were quick to gain a strong lead over the Braves, and kept the strong lead through halftime. After the half, the girls came back kept fighting until the final buzzer. The girls continued to score, but the Braves were not about to take a loss. Community quickly started to rack up the points, and the Leopards started to lose their lead. Sophomore Shani Rainey and freshman Samantha Odom made key defensive plays to prevent the Braves from scoring, leading the Lady Leopards to a 53 -27 win. The team are now playoff bound, playing Carrollton Ranchview on Monday February 13 at The Colony.
