Student Super Bowl overview

Student+Super+Bowl+overview

Many NFL fans are groaning at the rematch of Super Bowl XLII between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.

“This could be one of the worst Super Bowl games ever,” senior Chris Goodrich said. “There aren’t two teams that I hate more than the Giants and Patriots.”

Cowboy fans are depressed after another post-season run by the Giants, led by Eli Manning, reaching the Super Bowl yet again. On the other side lies a Patriots team that is not new to reaching this deep in the playoffs with three championships over the past decade. But, not all fans are in disgust of the matchup. Around the school lie some hardcore fans of the teams that are playing on Sunday.

“I always grew up as a Patriot’s fan since I was little,” senior Tristan Macdonald. “I have my Tom Brady in my closet right now and I am ready to proudly wear it to support my team.”

With another trip to the Super Bowl the Patriots have reached the championship an impressive five times in the past decade. Leading them is quarterback Tom Brady, who with another win could arguably be called one of the greatest to ever take helm of an offense.

“Many fans just seem to hate Tom Brady for some reason,” sophomore Sam Ruhala said. “People think either he’s overrated or lucky, but in reality he really is just a great quarterback that takes his team back to the title game over and over.”

Most would seem to think that a veteran built team with a high octane offense like the Patriots would be favored to win, but with the Giants’ pass rush and swagger of quarterback Eli Manning, this seems to be a much more even matchup than on paper.

“I have been really skeptical of the Giants this whole season,” business teacher Richard Harvell said. “The Giants have always been a team that I have been emotionally attached, and it has been great to see Eli Manning step up and bring us to the big game.”

Even though this year’s Super Bowl might not be the most exciting matchup to many fans, it is still the championship game for America’s favorite sport, so expect people to still tune in to watch the game.

“I am still going to watch the game even if I do not really like either team,” junior Mitchell Compton said. “It is still the Super Bowl after all.”
