Everyone seems to love the classic movies that are enjoyed by people of all ages; the animals that can magically talk, sing and choreograph dances too.
Many of these movies do well at the box office so its somewhat inevitable sequels are made. “Happy Feet” is no exception which explains “Happy Feet 2.”
Of course advertisements for a sequel to a movie everyone loved get potential audiences excited, but then most movie goers realize, after standing in line to get a ticket, that the sequel doesn’t stand any chance to be nearly as good as the original.
Waiting in line to see the sequel to “Happy Feet,” with two little cousins, people begin to ponder as to the feeling of excitement given to see a sequel to a movie. “It has penguins in it, what can be cuter than penguins who sing and dance?” So somehow people allow themselves to believe that this movie, soon to be seen, will be good and not a complete total waste of time.
The movie opens with a big song and a dance routine and I think that maybe, just maybe, that the “movie gods” let this one movie be good because this sequel is going to prove all the other sequels wrong. Who was I kidding? The opening scene was the best and it got my attention so that I was stuck hoping it would get better when really it would ultimately be a huge disappointment.
The movie is all about the penguin Mumble, who in the first movie was the baby penguin and in the second becomes a dad who is raising his own baby penguin Erik. The plot grows as Mumble and Erik have trouble seeing eye to eye but they have to work together and save their family of penguins because they are trapped in an ice enclosure. In the end, they save their family of penguins and the bond of farther and son grows (this being the typical heartwarming ending that everyone loves).
Overall the movie was something of a disappointment, but then again a sequel rarely surpasses the original. There are exceptions to this rule of course, but “Happy Feet 2” wasn’t the movie that could pull it off. It had its moments, but honestly, the previews were the best part. However if there are little kids in your life they will love “Happy Feet 2,” but as far as some one older, bring the newspaper or a crossword puzzle to keep yourself entertained.
