Volleyball steamrolls Argyle

On November 8th, the volleyball team took on their biggest rivals, Argyle Eagles, in the regional quarterfinal of playoffs. On the day of the game, word got out to the varsity volleyball players that the Argyle players were talking smack. Of course, with every sport, there will be some sort of belittling of the other team, but the Eagles took it to a whole new level.  A friend of junior Shannon Connell got hold of a letter that an Argyle Volleyball player wrote to her team. Connell then forwarded it on to her own team. The player wrote to her teammates stating, “Many people believe that this is a David vs. Goliath, but I disagree. We are just as good as them and they are not ten times our size, but we do have more heart than any single one of them”. Not only did they believe that they were going to beat Lovejoy, but they went on to say, “We WILL be the Texas State Champions of 3A Volleyball”.

“It pumped us up and made us want to beat them so much more,” junior Kacy Guajardo said.

The team arrived at Celina High School Tuesday night to take on the team that was determined to beat them.

“We took it personal, but we didn’t take it to the court,” junior Mallorie Puckett said. “We were not going to let it effect our game”.

The Lady Leopards went on to sweep the Eagles in three games, winning 25-15 the first game, 25-10 second, and 25-17 in the third game.

“It was a huge game and everything that happened just made it even bigger,” Puckett said.
